Queen Elizabeth National Park

Today am taking you through Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Queen Elizabeth Nationa Park Located in western Uganda, shared by districts of Kasese, Bundibugyo and Bushenyi, Queen Elizabeth park is 1978km2 in size. The park lies 5-6 hours from
Kampala on a surfaced road via Mbarara, and can be reached on a dirt road from Bwindi.
It includes parts of Lakes Edward and George which are linked by Kazinga channel and other attractions. Accessing the park from Kampala is either on tarmac through Mbarara (420 kames) or Fort Portal via Kasese (410kms). The park is 5-6 hours from Kampala on surface road via Mbarara. This Uganda safari park can also be reached via Ishasha sector, which is south of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.


The park has luxury accommodation that will favor all visitors. It also caters for the budget travelers.Mweya safari lodge and Jacana lodge have excellent services and Ishasha wilderness camp with lavishness accommodation.Budget accommodation includes Mweya hotels and Ishasha bandas with average standards that will make your stay memorable. The park also has camping sites such as Maramagambo,Ishasha and Mweya alternatively, one may take on the Hippo Hill Camp adjacent to Katwe along with Kingfisher camp on a beautiful Kichwamba escarpment. At Mweya there is an up market lodge, a campsite and budget hostel. Another up market lodge fringes a Crater Lake in Maramagambo Forest. A low-key camp is found in the Ishasha Sector.

The safari in Uganda Lodge is located in the heart of Uganda leading wildlife haven. Its famous for its various flora and fauna, animals such as Buffaloes, Lions, Elephants, Waterbucks hippos as well as crocodiles. Their land is covered with Savannah woodlands along with grassland. Although the common one is the Euphorbia species.

The lodge has well designed accommodation such as royal cottages, presidential cottage, deluxe all with en suit bathrooms, power as well as balcons giving a beautiful view of the Kazinga channel.

Kitandara Hippo Hill Camp Uganda

Kitandara Hippo Hill CampThis is a newly established tourist facility in the buffer zone of Queen Elizabeth National Park-Katwe town is a located on a hill overlooking Kitako and KabazimuIslands and surrounded by Lake Edward, Katwe salt Lake and Munyanyange crater Lakes. The Camp presently has 10 luxury tents with private toilets and hot showers. All Uganda safari tents are well furnished to ensure comfort for all. It has a spacious dinning that offers excellent standards of cuisine. The bar is well stocked overlooking Lake Albert, and has been built to suit your highest expectations. Many animals often show up unexpectedly like; lions, buffaloes, lions, warthogs, leopards, buffoons, antelopes and many others. Beware of the Elephants’ road blocks in the evening!

Mweya Institute of Ecology Uganda, Mweya Hostel

The Mweya institute of Ecology often referred to as the Mweya hostel offers low- mid range accommodation. It is located not very far from the Mweya Uganda Safari lodge.

The hostel has both single and double rooms with communal bathroom facilities and a self contained & self catering guest house capable of accommodating 4-6 people. The Hostel also has a canteen and restaurant close to the visitor rooms where visitors can order for their meals

 Ishasha Wilderness camp

Ishasha wildness camp is located within the heart of Queen Elizabeth National park adjacent to Ntungwe River. It’s a famous habitat for the tree climbing Lions. Its the only lavishness camp in the Ishasha sector. The camp is strategically located to favor both Gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Queen Elizabeth Forest along with Kibale Forest.

The camp is well designed with luxury tents that are fully self contained. Each tent has an African style.Meru tents are located in the wooded area across the river with excellent facilities such as en suite bathrooms and Eco-friendly toilets.

 Jacana safari lodge Uganda

Jacana safari lodge is suited in the heart of Queen Elizabeth National Park. It’s positioned at the periphery of Uganda’s biggest Crater Lake with a tree house lodge. The fragile use of rocks, ropes, wood, natural furniture blend well with the sweet melodies of the tropical hardwood forest. The evenings are usually occupied with camp fire that gives a memorable experience to all visitors. The Uganda safari lodge is well known for its standard accommodation with better facilities. The lodge has well designed accommodation with about 10 lavish chalets along with a family cottage. Kingfisher Lodge Kichwamba Uganda

Kingfisher Lodge is suited off the park and it’s a temperate accommodation in Queen Elizabeth National Park. It’s owned by the Germans and positioned in the western part of Uganda adjacent to Queen Elizabeth National park. It has about 250 meters over the plains that give a magnificent view of the park, Mountain Rwenzori along with the Kazinga channel.

Hippo Hill camp is well known to be a lavish camp located within the heart of Queen Elizabeth National Park. It was opened in 2006 and it’s more positioned in the shield zone of the park-Katwa town. The safari in Uganda camp was constructed on the hill providing a magnificent view of Kitako as well as Kabazimu Islands. This park is enclosed by Lake Edward, Katwe salt Lake along with Munyanyange Crater Lake. It’s surrounded with large concentrations of Hippos, buffaloes, Flamingos and other wildlife.

The accommodation is well set with about ten lavishness tents with personal ensuite facilities such as bathrooms and toilets.The tents are well designed to provide comfort and a peaceful setting to enjoy the night.

Simba Safari Lodge Uganda

Simba Safari Camp is a budget Uganda safari accommodation situated on the border of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Here you will find a variety of comfortable and affordable guest rooms, dormitory rooms and a well established camp site.

The park has a variety of Flora and Fauna and it’s acknowledged to be a habitat for over 95 mammal species with about 612 species of birds. The various species in this park, has made it a unique park most liked by tourists. Geographers will say that the park has around 57 vegetation but in actual sense, it has five levels of vegetation. Mweya Peninsula
The peninsula is the heart of sightseeing activities with excellent accommodation in the park. The only way to enjoy your tour in this park is by touring with a ranger guide. Kazinga Channel.

The Kazinga channel is about 40m long adjoining Lake Gorge to Lake Edward. It has the perfect view of the parks’ major wildlife ventures. The shores of the lake attracts a large concentration of mammals, birds as well as reptiles all year around. The animals can be viewed well by the Nile cruise or probably at the entrance of Lake Edward. The operation of the cruise run from 15.00 and 17.00, furthermore voyages run 11.00 and 13.00 depending on the demand of the tourists.

The Equator and the Queen’s Pavilion
The Uganda’s Equator provides a beautiful place for photo shooting along with craft shops that can make you buy a souvenir .The Queen’s Pavilion is easily spotted by the northern entrance to the Crater Drive. In 1954 Queen Elizabeth gave a provision shelter for this site until in 1959 when a permanent pavilion was constructed for the visit of Queen Elizabeth. Renovations were made by second visit of Duke of Edinburgh in 2007 with better facilities such as coffee shop and internet facilities.

Ishasha Tree Climbing Lions
Ishasha covers an area of about 100km south of Mweya.The Park’s distant southern segment gives a genuine Africa wilderness experience. Among the inhabitants in this place include savannah woodland, Ishasha River along with Lake Edward that has a diversity of wildlife such as climbing lions, rare shoebill stork and many others.
